Cover Letter Paper #3

For this multi-modal assignment regarding Literacy History, we tried to find out what motivates children to learn how to read and write. We interviewed six people and included our own stories in this project to help us figure out what the main motivation is for students. We did not come up with a single motivation that stood out among the rest because everyone has their own stories, and finds motivation in something different. The people we interviewed were completely random and we realized that parents are a big reason why people learn to read and write, but competitiveness and siblings are also factors when it comes to kids wanting to be good readers and writers. I really liked being able to change from the normal written paper format and do this project by creating a website. I think we have good background stories for this assignment and the only weak part might be how we support our claim through our conclusion. We had a few difficulties with the website malfunctioning, which made the process longer, but it all worked out. I want our peer editors to make sure we answered all the questions effectively.

  1. What I understood the purpose of your website to be was to show the different ways people get motivated to read and write. Your group supported this by interviews and providing your own literacy background.

I didn't see a lot of problems with your site. I would suggest that you switch the interviews of Lauren and Nikki so the order makes sense and the ending sentence of Nick's interview is a little repetitive. Overall I found your website easy to read, interesting, creative and all a good job. Keep up the good work!

  2. The purpose of your website does come across but some of the initial points are struggling to flow together well. The interviews in your website cite do add credibility to your website along with tying in your stories. I feel as if you need to work on the organization of your site. I suggest taking a few things off the home page and put them into a separate tab such as put all your interviews on one tab and than your conclusion on one tab. Consider making your title fonts a little bit bigger so you know where to focus first. But overall your website was interesting and enjoyable to read. Good luck on your final draft.

  3. From looking on your website, I could see your main purpose was to show what motivates people to read and write. You guys did a pretty good job with all the different interviews and added your own stories and they definitely added credibility to your main argument. A couple things that I suggest you do to better your site is work on the organization of it. Maybe make tabs for the interviews and a tab for the conclusion. Another thing I suggest is that you make your font bigger to put a better focus on certain parts of the page. I just feel like that would help catch my attention better. Overall, I enjoyed looking over your site and you had interesting stories to read. Good job and good luck with your final draft!

  4. From looking at your website I saw the main points that you covered. The different interviews showed the different ways of people and then your own interviews adds your own touch on it. It was a little difficult for me to ind my way around. I did enjoy your website and I liked the idea of it. It was overall a good website.
